The Haiti Agricultural Institute will include a housing area, each housing unit will have stucco bedrooms and bathrooms, with a kitchen and dining area made out of timber and wood panels. The wood panels connect the wood columns together around the perimeter of the structure. On the front of the building the panels close off the housing from the public, yet open up into a courtyard area on the reverse. There are two different types of housing units at different scales. The small scale unit includes three bedrooms with one bath, and the large scale includes six bedrooms and two baths.
The Butterfly roof of the wooden structure is meant to catch water from the rain and guide it down to a drain, leading the water to larger container on ground level. The container is to be used to irrigate gardens to help grow food for the students and teach them about sustainability and saving water.
The housing units on this institution will be placed around a central courtyard, with the backs of all of the units facing inwards. This closes the entire courtyard off from the public, allowing for each unit to also be open to share the space with neighboring units, creating a sense of community among the residents.
